Trey Songz Anticipation 2 Album Review

Anticipation 2

 Trey Songz

Nov 1. 2011

On Trey Songz’s new mixtape, “Anticipation” he gets more graphic than on his previous albums. He takes a completely different route but the same destination to take your lover to the mountain peak and make her soul jump. An excellent example is the track entitled “Bomb (a.p.)” that could score as the freakiest track that is guaranteed to even put a lack luster lover in the mood. Over a spooky, drum pattern and silvery piano, Songz works his talent as mediocre rapper but excellent vocalist to entice the female listeners. Of course, the massage is just a prelude to what he’s really after, but the gesture embodies what Songz does best –- make seduction feel honed and calculated, but not necessarily less enticing.
He has the uncanny ability to step out of his confront zone and provide the listener with a plethora of trend setting tracks. Illustrated perfectly on the track “Girls on Girls” he attempts to give an insight of lesbian culture as he describes a woman who no longer wants relationships with men after she has been mistreated by men.  Then, he goes against the grain and drops a track similar to R. Kelly entitled “I Wish” and on his track “Top of the World” he describes the struggle incorporated with trying to prevail against odds. He goes on to say, “If he could he would bring everybody to top of the world he would”. If you’re just lounging around trying to get a quickie or setting up a romantic rendezvous this track listing definitely must be in the rotation. Trey Songz has elevated his career to soaring heights as a vocalist after first having his sights as rapper.  The Moral-- never give up, when one door closes always look for that next door to open.
